Drones hotter than your Thanksgiving turkey right now

You’ve done the necessary deeds, traveled to the necessary in-laws and hometowns. You’ve cooked the yams, gotten the turkey to a point where it won’t kill anyone who eats it and taken part in the obligatory game of touch football. Why? Because it’s Thanksgiving, and like every other red-blooded American you’re basically expected to. You’re supposed to join together, under the same roof as people you may well actively avoid for the rest of the year, to give thanks and remember the importance of family.

Well, what better way to show your family how you feel about them than with the gift of drones? It’s time to bring your family together with an aerial display that will make your neighbors turn their heads in jealousy.

Hubsan X4Hubsan-X4-3 - quadcopters

First up, we have a drone with a price point that can bring together both the very young and very old. The Hubsan X4 is USB chargeable, has a 6-axis flight control and boasts its own in-built camera. You won’t be getting amazing footage, but it’s so cheap you shouldn’t really be expecting to. That’s the low, low price of $34.99 we’re talking about, so cheap it practically makes this a throwaway drone. But, hopefully the lightweight, durable airframe will make it so you don’t have to. This is the perfect drone for the potentially clumsy flying of the very young and very old.

This next one’s a little more advanced and a little more expensive. Give it to someone you trust, or at the very least someone who doesn’t use diapers regularly. At $899.99, you might not just be able to shrug off this thing breaking. But that $900 price tag did not go to waste. With the ability to shoot video in 4K, fly up to half a mile away while still transmitting video and go for 25 minutes on a single charge, this drone isn’t taking your desires lightly. It’s also worth noting that this drone requires little to no training, as it can be completely controlled from your phone or tablet, and set to easily return home by tapping the device’s screen and letting GPS do the rest.

Now, you might need something to satiate that black sheep in your family, who just needs to be different from everyone else. For that predicament, we’d recommend the Hubsan H301S Spy Hawk. It’s more plane-like than your average drone, but it boasts many of the same features as the GHOSTDRONE for under half the price. For only $319 you can fly around recording video in 1080p for 20 to 30 minutes before hitting the Return-Home button and letting GPS do the hard work for you. You can’t control the Sky Hawk from your phone, but the transmitter houses a 3.5″ screen allowing you to see exactly where you are.

But what about you, huh? You’re the big man/woman of the house. You’ve done the deeds, you’ve given your thanks. Where’s your slice of luxury, nudging you head and shoulders above the rest of your family? Because giving thanks is all well and good, but God damn does it feel good to be the king. Well…

DJI Phantom 4dj phantom 4 - quadcopters

Introducing the current king of the castle, the DJI Phantom 4. This one is no small investment, but if you’re a real enthusiast OR hearing $1199.00 doesn’t make your head spin, this is something you should really consider. While, similarly to the GHOSTDRONE, you can only fly for a maximum of 28 minutes, you can fly out to three miles, or six times the distance of the others in this article. The camera can record 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 120fps for that extra slow motion touch, all the while giving you great, focused shots using the Phantom’s Active Track system. The Phantom 4 truly stands out as a higher class of drone technology. And that’s why if it’s going to be anyone’s, it should be yours. Don’t you agree?
