You’ve got to love the styling of the U-DI U845, which looks like something straight out of a 1950s sci-fi movie. But how does this 6 axis gyro quadcopter handle? And is it the ideal gift for Christmas?
Out of the box, it’s a well-made machine that’s a snap to assemble and comes with plenty of spare blades and extra batteries to keep you flying for longer. Weighing in at just 115g, you can fly this one right out of the box, as it doesn’t require FAA registration.
Before you do that, you’ll want to download the app so you can take full advantage of FPV technology through your Apple or Android phone, although the transmission range is pretty short at 30 metres and U-DI U845 only records video to your phone, so this may not be the drone for you if your smartphone can’t handle it. Fly without video and you’ll get a 50-80 metre range, which is ample.
Up in the sky, you’ll get a maximum nine minutes of flying time – shorter for video – but this has to be one of the easiest to fly models we’ve ever seen. Stunts are a piece of cake, if you can press a button you can make this mini marvel flip and roll through 360 degrees, making it ideal for the newbie pilot. Headless mode is a great feature which lets you know which way the U-DI U84 is pointing, thanks to some cool LEDs. So when you push forward on the stick you’ll go forward – pull back and you’ll fly backwards.
Currently retailing for $105 on Amazon, this is a great beginner drone and would make a very cool Christmas gift!
